The Board is legally responsible for approving and providing the necessary instructional materials used in the District. Instructional materials, regardless of format, should provide quality learning experiences for students and:

  • Enrich and support the curriculum;

  • Stimulate growth in knowledge, literary appreciation, aesthetic value, and ethical standards;

  • Provide background information to enable students to make informed  judgments;

  • Present various viewpoints on controversial issues;

  • Be representative of many religious, ethnic, and cultural groups and their contributions to our collective American heritage;

  • Depict in an accurate and unbiased way the cultural diversity and pluralistic nature of American society;

  • Allow for appropriate differentiation of instruction based on the various needs of a heterogeneous student population.

Per the processes outlined in The Curriculum Management Plan, Instructional materials will be reviewed at intervals not exceeding five (5) years.  All instructional materials must be compatible with previous and future learning progressions and shall address appropriate competencies.
