Leaders in PreventionSix students from Southside Middle School and two adult advisers attended the Leaders in Prevention retreat at the Barbara Harris Conference Center in Greenfield NH. The opportunity was provided with a full scholarship by the NH Teen Institute.
The NH Teen Institute offered a comprehensive, dynamic, leadership training program for our middle school students which will help them thrive in the midst of the pressures of growing up. The Leaders In Prevention (LIP) retreat brought together our team of six Southside Middle School students and two advisers for a weekend of activities and discussion with other teams from across New Hampshire. Students with leadership potential attended from all walks of life and levels of skill. These students demonstrated the capability of working as part of a team and willingness to bring new skills back to our community.
Throughout the Leaders in Prevention Program weekend, the students participated in an array of learning opportunities that fostered personal growth, leadership skills, and an understanding of the importance of community. Each had the opportunity to explore new ideas and options, to connect with his or her own value system and those of the rest of the community, and to grow in meaningful ways. Each team left LIP with a concrete Action Plan to improve the climate of their school & community.
The Southside team came back with an action plan to promote a positive change here at Southside. The team is very excited to share what they learned with others and you will be hearing more from them.
Project Based Learning8th Grade Clemson students created and played jeopardy games that incorporated all 4 content areas math, social studies, science, and language arts.
