GEAR UP Kick Off Event for 6th GradersMarch 27, 2019 – 10am to 1pmHampshire Dome, Milford, NH
GEAR UP, which stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs, is a free program that helps students succeed in school. It helps families and students learn about choices for education and careers after high school. GEAR UP believes that every student should have the opportunity to advance their education if they work hard, take the right courses and stay in school. GEAR UP also believes that planning future success should begin with students and families in 6th grade and continue through 12th grade. GEAR UP will be providing additional support in each school to help GEAR UP students succeed. GEAR UP support may include: making arrangements for services to help students succeed academically, mentoring, tutoring, study skills workshops and summer enrichment programs. GEAR UP will also help students to learn about colleges and future career options. The kick off for GEAR UP Manchester is March 27 at the Hampshire Dome in Milford. Transportation and lunch will be provided for all students. Field trip forms have gone home and a copy is attached to this email. Please return it by Wednesday, March 20th.

Project- Based Learning in Mrs. Edward’s Class All students on the UConn team have been working on a persuasive research project. Each student chose a topic they felt strongly about and wrote claims. We then spent time learning how to determine if a source is credible and how to research effectively. As a final project, the students have the option to create a Google slideshow, persuasive poster, essay or video to convince their audience. All students will be presenting their project to their peers.
Geography Bee Champions Southside’s Geography Bee winners, Caroline Wainaina, Isabella Cocozziello, and Sezar Faraj competed at Hillside in the City Geography Bee on Wednesday. Sezar took second place for the City Bee. We are very proud of all of the competitors!
